Describe your IAPSC path from membership to the Board of Directors and Conference Committee Chair.
After a career change in 2009, I was recruited by Mitch Fenton, currently our IAPSC Treasurer & Awards Committee Chair, to apply for membership. I accepted the Membership Committee Chair position and within my first year I was able to recruit and onboard new members as well as lead the migration to modernize background checks.
I’ve spent some of my tenure with IAPSC on the Forensic Committee and working on special projects for our IAPSC Presidents. My first seat on the Board of Directors was in 2011 and I have been re-elected for the 2020-2022 term.
A recurring role for me has been Chair for the Annual Conference. I’ve helped plan the event in Napa, CA on two occasions, Miami, New Orleans and San Antonio, TX this October.
What do you enjoy most about being an IAPSC member?
I have established great business relationships over the years as a member of IAPSC. Networking within our association allows me to interact with a variety of security professionals and build partnerships or referral networks that I have found to be quite valuable.
My volunteer and committee work has made an immeasurable impact for my passions in the security consultant industry. From setting the stage and creating programs for conferences, I search for the best resources in our ever-changing industry. This work has been rewarding in both personal and professional circles.
Please share some details about the upcoming October 2021 Conference including what aspects you are most excited to attend.
Our 36th Annual IAPSC Conference has been in the planning stages for two years – we’re all excited to be hosting this event and be together safely in San Antonio. The event space is designed with social distancing in mind. Our top priority is for attendees to feel comfortable and safe at the conference.
The Conference Committee has developed a great program with fresh and interesting content, there is something for every security consultant. Presenters are from IAPSC membership and various industry experts.
It’s hard to select my favorite presentations, so I’ll make a list:
• Hotel Security Trends
• Human Trafficking
• Artificial Intelligence
• Tips to using Subcontractors
• Developing and responding to RFP's
• Healthcare Security
• Office for Bombing Prevention’s Counter-IED Programs and Resources
• Forensic Sessions on Conducting Research and Deposition Strategies used by Attorney’s
Special events you should have on your radar are technical sessions moderated by our own Frank Pisciotta. For a live and entertaining session, make sure to attend Arming or Disarming Security with IAPSC Treasurer Mitch Fenton.
Seeing old friends and making new ones is the most exciting part for me. The Riverwalk in San Antonio is a picture-perfect location for networking and enjoying our IAPSC Annual Conference.
