Clarification on Retired Members' Professional Activity Status
A “Retired” member is a security professional who has permanently ceased full‑time or part‑time compensated consulting or employment in the security industry, does not actively market or solicit consulting services, and no longer maintains an operational business entity for the purpose of providing security consulting or related services.
To qualify as “Retired,” all of the following conditions must be met:
1. No compensated work
- No paid consulting
- No paid expert witness work
- No paid security management or advisory roles
- No subcontracting or referral‑fee arrangements
2. No active business operations
- No active LLC, corporation, or DBA offering security services
- No active website advertising services
- No active marketing, proposals, or business development
3. No ongoing client engagements
- No open contracts
- No recurring or retained clients
- No pending proposals
4. Professional identity reflects retirement
- Public profiles (LinkedIn, website, etc.) no longer present the individual as an active consultant
- The individual identifies as retired from professional practice
5. Limited exceptions allowed
The member may still:
- Volunteer in non‑compensated roles
- Mentor emerging professionals
- Participate in IAPSC committees
- Speak at events without compensation
- Receive passive income unrelated to consulting (e.g., book royalties)
