IAPSC member Jonathan Lusher, working with Ken Stapelton & Associates, a planning, training and economic development consultancy, recently completed a CPTED and security assessment and plan for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, Alberta, Canada. This area, including the city of Fort McMurray, is a leading oilsands-producing boomtown.
The planning authority engaged Stapleton and Lusher to assess security and planning needs for an extensive renovation and expansion of several riverside park areas, long disused. The parks under consideration will range from pristine natural areas to busy marinas, concert venues and beach facilities, and therefore include a wide variety of spaces, facilities, use patterns and even wildlife considerations. The waterfront areas also have historic significances, dating back to the early days of the Canadian frontier.
