A few months ago I conducted a survey of the membership to find out about the level of teaming going on among IAPSC members. Because I’ve been teaming with IAPSC members for many years now, I was curious to know about how prevalent it is and how other members came to find their teaming partners. What I learned was interesting and useful:
- More than 50% the members who responded have teamed with IAPSC members
- Almost 75% of those found a teaming partner through IAPSC networking (typically by attending a conference)
- Nearly everyone who responded wants to be better educated on formulating teaming, subcontracting agreements, and presenting teaming in proposals
- Most all are interested in teaming or doing more teaming than they are currently doing
This was an important survey for me to understand how important teaming is and that other members are interested in growing their practices through teaming with others. Specifically, the survey results revealed that members would like the following information / training available:
- Teaming /Subcontracting Agreements
- Marketing Your Company as a Team or Consortium (Presenting your team within a Proposal Response)
- Building the Right Team
- Growing your business by using 1099 Employees / Consultants versus W2 Employees
To capitalize on this, I have taken your comments and suggestions to roll out two new benefits to meet your request.
#1 I asked 2016 Annual Conference Chair Lynda Buel and her team to find a way to weave in Teaming as a part of the educational sessions and they did. They created the following educational session to be offered at the Charleston, SC conference on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 10:15 am – 11:15 am:
Maximizing Opportunities through Teaming
The best way to earn business is to partner with your IAPSC colleagues. Learn from some of the best teaming practitioners to learn best practices, including how to develop teaming and subcontracting agreements, the difference between the two, and how to best present your team within a proposal. Speakers will be: James H. Clark, CPP, Clark Security Group, Frank Pisciotta, CPP, President, Business Protection Specialists, Inc. and, Harold Gillens, President, Quintech Solutions, Inc.
#2 I asked a new IAPSC member Don Oxman to head up the task of creating an Archive Folder on our website (Members-Only Section) for document sharing of items related to both Teaming and other reference documents that our new members (specifically, but not limited to) could use. In the months ahead, when this new on-line resource is ready, we will send out an e-mail notifying all members.
I want to thank all members who responded to the teaming survey. I hope you will join us in Charleston, SC, April 17-20, 2016 to learn more about teaming and hopefully, to soon engage in teaming with other members. I would welcome any additional comments you have about this topic or others. Feel free to contact me.
